For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come in
the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature
of the fullness of Christ.

The Proposal

On December 31st 1997, I was in Haifa, in Israel, and in a deep sleep on my ride to my lodging when
I heard “
Add Jimoh to Lola’s name” and immediately, I saw her face and woke up. I said in my heart,
very loud, HER!

When I came home I thought, perhaps this is not the word of the Lord and if I could find anything to
disqualify her, I might have great consolation that the Lord had not spoken. I knew that, the only way
she could have my name would be to marry her, why didn’t the word say MARRY HER, nevertheless I
could not disqualify her.

… And if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned…
I Corinthians 7:28.

She is a gem and I believe that she lives to proclaim the faithfulness of God especially in terms of
marriage. I knew that marriage has not been according to the word of God in this day and age, some are
divorced but didn’t know they were never married, some believed they are married and do not know that
they are actually in adultery and some are married and thought they are fornicating, this observation
includes those in the church.

Now I had to muster some confidence to ask her, and not make a fool of myself, she has great
respect for me, as a man of God, and I likewise see her as a virtuous woman; living for God and
undefiled at this present age, especially growing up in New York City. In my delay; almost three months,
I will be reminded even from the pulpit and in my interaction with saints of like faith.

One day, we were in one of the fast food restaurant and she ordered a plain burger; the meat and the
buns only, but other things were added and she was determined not to eat it, “they had made contact
with the meat” she insisted. While I was trying to convince her to isolate the buns and beef and disregard
the others, a sister named Janice blurted out, “
She shall be your wife”, and I flinched and asked if she
was prophesying, but she recoiled and said “no”.

I realized that I must now do something, but didn’t know how, and since this thing is not about to go
away, I was looking for the opportunity to now obey. She was sitting next to me one day; as usual,
before the service, and I said to her that I wanted to ask her something, while I was musing,
questioning, and not getting to the point, she asked “Are you proposing to me?” “Yes, How did you
know?” I retorted. “The Lord had revealed to me that you will”, was her reply.
